DR. BETH K. BRUENING, M.D.

Ophthalmic Surgeon
Dr. Beth Bruening specializes in no-stitch cataract surgery, a same day procedure that replaces the cloudy cataract lens with a clear intraocular lens implant. She has been performing cataract surgery for nearly 25 years, longer than any ophthalmologist in Siouxland. Board-certified in comprehensive ophthalmology; she also has extensive experience in treating patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes and all eye disorders. Dr. Bruening has been recognized as a Top 10 Surgeon in the U.S. by Sightpath Medical in 2009, 2010, 2012.
A native of Crofton, NE, Dr. Bruening earned her bachelor’s degree in 1983 followed by her medical degree in 1987 from the University of Nebraska. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at Texas Tech University Health and Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas and relocated to Sioux City to open her practice in 1991. Dr. Bruening joined the Woodbury Medical Society and was elected president by her peers in 1998. She later became president of the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology. She was selected to participate in the American Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Program in 2004-2005 and then served on the academy’s board and PAC from 2005 to 2008. She also served on the board of directors and several committees of the Iowa Medical Society.
Dr. Bruening and her husband, Steve, have two sons.
DR. JUSTIN J. KUIPER, M.D.
Comprehensive Ophthalmologist

Dr. Kuiper is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist who manages a wide variety of medical and surgical eye problems. His interests include cataract surgery, LASIK, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and minor oculoplastics. He enjoys helping patients achieve and maintain their best vision throughout their lives. He values developing relationships with patients and strives to provide empathetic care, guided by research and using the latest technology.
Dr. Kuiper was raised in Sheldon, Iowa before completing his undergraduate degree at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He attended medical school at the University of Iowa, then moved to Columbus, Ohio for his ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University. He was in practice in Minnesota before joining Bruening Eye Specialists in April 2022.
Dr. Kuiper enjoys spending time with his family and getting outdoors whenever possible. His interests include golfing, hiking, biking, running, and being active in church and community.
DR. THOMAS G. PRATT, O.D.
Optometrist
Dr. Tom Pratt has seen optometry patients at Bruening Eye Specialists since 2008. Dr. Pratt grew up in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 1980 where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in distributive studies with minors in chemistry, biology and business. At Iowa State he was also a four-year letterman in track and a state champion pole vaulter!
Dr. Pratt received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1985 and completed a summer residency in Chicago working with patients with glaucoma, diabetes and retinal diseases. After working in the Quad Cities, he moved to Sioux City in 1987 and began working in area optometry offices before joining Bruening Eye Specialists.
Dr. Pratt and his wife, Laura, have three adult children.
DR. RYAN RUDLOFF, O.D.
Optometrist
Dr. Ryan Rudloff is passionate about providing patients with excellent comprehensive medical vision care in the Siouxland Community. He is excited to help a wide range of patients from comprehensive exams to contact lens patients to those with glaucoma and diabetes.
Dr. Rudloff, a Newman Grove, NE native, attended Wayne State College, where he played DII basketball for the Wildcats and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Human and Sport Physiology. Later he received his Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University, in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2018.
Dr. Rudloff loves living in the Siouxland area and enjoys playing basketball and other sports, attending sporting events, and spending time with his family, He loves dogs and focusing on learning Spanish!
